Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 98

Tasted at the La Romanee vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 2013 La Romanee Grand Cru was bottled in April 2015, around eight weeks prior to the La Romanee vertical. There is clearly more fruite on the nose compared to the 2012, pure Morello cherries, wild strawberry and a touch of spice, though there is not quite the same trembling mineral intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a core of pure red cherry and strawberry fruit interlaced with white pepper, orange peel and marmalade. This is a fabulous follow-up to the 2012 but will it have the same profound ethereal nature? I’m not sure and yet it remains a show-stopping wine opening page one of a long future. Tasted June 2015. Vinous 95+

Deep red-ruby. Wonderfully complex if youthfully reticent aromas of black raspberry, graphite minerality, Oriental spices and smoked meat. Rich, broad, dry and classic, showing no easy sweetness in the early going. Ripe berry, mineral and licorice flavors spread out horizontally to saturate the palate. This very young wine boasts outstanding definition and a firmly tannic, building finish that delivers terrific grip. In a very adult style–and for collectors who can delay gratification.
