Tasting Notes

Vinous 88

The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussieres 1er Cru contains 40% whole bunch. It shows quite a hefty reduction on the nose that suppresses the fruit, which is a pity because it seems pure and attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, chewy, a bit blocky at the moment with a compact, no-frills finish that leaves you wanting more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. Robert Parker 92

Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussiere offers up aromas of cherries, raspberries, Indian spices and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and muscular, it’s firm and structured, with rich, chalky tannins and a ripe core of fruit. [William Kelley, 30/12/2020]

Anticipated maturity: 2028-2050

Monopole of less than 2.59 ha (6.4 acres). Monopole since the 12th century. Opposite the entrance to Dujac. Bought in the 1950s by Christophe s grandad. Not in good nick so he started to renew it in 1955 and last phase of renewal was 1994. South of Morey. Lots of clay. 25% new barrels, 50% whole bunch. Barrel sample – this barrel from 2012. Deep crimson. Rich and deeply ripe but no hint of overripeness just a generosity of sweet dark-red fruit, a hint of Morey floral and peppery character. Open and expressive on the nose and rich and rounded on the palate. Firm, chewy, smooth tannins with a chalky finish. A big wine but scented and dense at the same time and finishes fresh.
