Producer Profile

Situated on the gravelly banks of the Gironde estuary, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a true aristocrat of Saint-Julien. Under the meticulous direction of Bruno Borie, the estate crafts wines that are the benchmark for elegance, power, and longevity in the Médoc. The 2016 blend (typically around 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, aged in 100% new oak) showcases the ultimate expression of this gravel-rich terroir.

Tasting Profile Deep, inky, and profoundly complex in the glass. The nose offers an ethereal, highly perfumed bouquet bursting with crème de cassis, ripe blueberries, fresh violets, graphite, and subtle notes of cedar chest and cigar box. On the palate, the wine is a tour de force of balance—combining massive concentration and full-bodied power with a seamless, velvety texture. Layers of dark fruit melt into fine-grained, perfectly ripe tannins, carried by a streak of vibrant acidity straight through to a monumental, chocolate-laced finish.

Serving & Cellaring While showing extraordinary perfume and grace today with proper aeration, this is a monumental wine built for long-term cellaring. If opening now, decant for 2 to 3 hours prior to serving. It will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar for decades to come. Pair with prime cuts of red meat, roasted rack of lamb, or rich game dishes.
