Description

1er Cru Burgundy | 100% Pinot Noir

“Les Corbeaux” (The Crows) is a vineyard prized for its cooling breezes and stony soils, which allow the Pinot Noir to retain a vibrant acidity even in solar years like 2022. This is a “Vins de Garde” (wine for aging)—a structured, deeply complex red that showcases the darker, more savory side of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Expect a wine of immense depth, characterized by broad shoulders, silky but firm tannins, and a finish that reflects the prestigious Grand Cru neighborhood it inhabits.

The Look: Deep garnet with intense ruby reflections.

The Nose: Dark and brooding. Recent reviews (early 2026) highlight a sophisticated bouquet of black cherries, wild blackberries, and licorice, underpinned by violet petals, damp earth, and a hint of smoked meat.

The Palate: Full-bodied and expansive. The 2022 fruit is concentrated and “fleshy,” featuring flavors of dark plum and spice, framed by ripe, velvety tannins and a surprisingly fresh, mineral-driven core.

The Finish: Majestic and long, leaving a lingering impression of black tea, iron, and savory spice.

Producer Profile

The Renaissance of a Burgundian Icon | Hervé Kerlann

Located in the heart of the Côte-d’Or near Beaune, Château de Laborde is a historic estate dating back to 1678. After centuries of prestige followed by a period of dormancy, the estate was revitalized in 1998 by Hervé Kerlann.

Today, it stands as a symbol of the “New Burgundy” a producer that honors the rigid traditions of the region while embracing modern precision and accessibility.

“Terroir Without Borders”

Hervé Kerlann’s approach is defined by a deep respect for the Climats of Burgundy.
The estate focuses on minimal intervention to allow the specific geological identity of each plot from Gevrey-Chambertin to Chambolle-Musigny to speak clearly in the glass.

  • Precision Viticulture: Meticulous vineyard management focusing on soil health and biodiversity.
  • The “Kerlann” Touch: A winemaking style that prioritizes purity of fruit and elegant tannin structures over heavy oak extraction.
  • Heritage Aging: All wines are aged in the Château’s vaulted 14th and 17th-century cellars, providing the perfect natural environment for slow, graceful maturation.

"A structured and powerful 1er Cru… layers of dark fruit and spice with a firm, mineral finish. Needs time, but the potential is huge." [James Suckling, 01/06/2024]

"Serious wine for the cellar. Tightly coiled with great depth. Very much a mini-Grand Cru in character." [JancisRobinson.com, 01/11/2023]
