Description

The 2025 Santa Helena Varietal Chardonnay is a fresh, fruit-forward expression from Chile’s expansive Central Valley. Known for its incredible consistency and value, Santa Helena’s “Varietal” range focuses on preserving the primary fruit characteristics of the grape through protective winemaking and stainless steel aging.

While 2025 was a warm vintage in many parts of Chile, the early harvest and the proximity of the Central Valley to the cooling influences of the Andes have ensured this wine maintains its signature racy freshness.

The Craft: Purity of Fruit
The 2025 Varietal Chardonnay is designed for early enjoyment, emphasizing “freshness over funk.”

The Harvest: Grapes were harvested between late January and early March to capture peak acidity before the summer heat could over-ripen the fruit.

Vinification: The juice was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for approximately 20 days.

Unoaked Style: To keep the profile “bright and lively,” the wine saw no oak aging, instead resting briefly on its lees in steel tanks to add a subtle creaminess to the mid-palate without the influence of wood tannins or vanilla.

The Appearance: A limpid, bright golden yellow with greenish glints.

The Nose: Intensely tropical. It opens with dominant notes of ripe pineapple, banana, and white peach, with subtle floral hints of jasmine.

The Palate: Refreshing and “gentle.” The entry is fruity with a soft, supple texture, balanced by a vibrant citrus acidity that cleanses the palate.

The Finish: Clean and persistent, ending on a refreshing note of lemon zest and tropical fruit.

Producer Profile

Viña Santa Helena is a cornerstone of the Chilean wine industry, representing over 80 years of history in the Colchagua Valley.

Founded in 1942, it has evolved from a boutique estate into a global powerhouse, recognized for producing reliable, fruit-forward wines that capture the “soul of the Central Valley.”

Today, it is a key brand within the VSPT Wine Group (Viña San Pedro Tarapacá), the second-largest wine exporter in Chile and a global leader in sustainable viticulture.

The Heart of Colchagua

While Santa Helena sources fruit from across the Central Valley for its Varietal range, its spiritual and operational home remains in San Fernando, the gateway to the Colchagua Valley.

The Vineyards: The estate manages expansive vineyards characterized by a Mediterranean climate. The proximity to the Andes Mountains provides a significant “diurnal shift” (hot days and cold nights), which is essential for developing the intense tropical aromatics seen in their Chardonnay and the deep colors of their Cabernet Sauvignon

“Freshness & Purity”
The winemaking team at Santa Helena, led by veteran enologists, focuses on a “protective” style of winemaking. This means minimizing oxygen exposure and using temperature-controlled stainless steel to ensure the bottled wine tastes exactly like the freshly harvested grapes.

Sustainability Leadership: As part of VSPT, Santa Helena is committed to the “360° Sustainable” program. This includes using lightweight glass bottles to reduce carbon footprints, utilizing 100% renewable energy in the cellar, and implementing advanced water-management systems in the vineyards.
Consistency: The hallmark of Santa Helena is its “technical precision.” Whether it is the entry-level Varietal tier or the premium Gran Reserva, the wines are known for being clean, balanced, and stylistically consistent year-on-year.
