Tasting Notes
John Gilman 91
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes from Vincent and Francois Jouard is crafted from vines that are all in excess of fifty years of age. The Jouard brothers, blessed with eleven hectares of vines, are able to sell of any production from vines less than fifty years-old I their villages holdings. The wine is raised in one-third new oak and in 2022 offers up a lovely young bouquet of apple, pear, fresh almond, chalky soil tones, spring flowers and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and nascently complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil signature, zesty acids and excellent balance on the long, vibrant and classy finish. This is already very tasty, but clearly has more layers of complexity to unfold if given a bit of bottle age. This is first class Chassagne! (Drink between 2025-2045)
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045
