Description

GENEROUS & WELL-STRUCTURED

A TERROIR THAT FAITHFULLY REFLECTS
THE VINTAGE

Les Goulots is a small Premier Cru climat at the northern end of the Gevrey-
Chambertin vineyard. It is one of the most elevated sites in the Cote de Nuits. This
steep vineyard on the edge of the Cote d’Or face almost due east, giving vines an
exposure that is quite different to the climats further south. The mesoclimate here is
much cooler, as shade comes to the vineyard much earlier in the day than in the
south-facing vineyards, imparting, freshness and menthol aromas, a true quality
marker found in great wines for examples those of DRC.

ANNUAL PRODUCTION: 600 – 900
bottles
AVERAGE VINE AGE: 40 years

SITUATION: Vines are located in an old
quarry, cool during the year but retains
heat in the summer. Exposure East. The
name “Les Goulots” comes from “goulottes”
which are small waterfalls caused by
mountain streams.

Producer Profile

9 CENTURIES OF HISTORY

Château de Laborde’s history began in 1119, when it was just a simple fortress near Beaune. Property of the Dukes of Burgundy from the 11th to 13th Century, it then became a Marquisate for Denis Brulard, the first President of the parliament of Burgundy in Dijon. His son transformed the buildings into a magnificent Château completed in 1678, with a vineyard surrounding the Estate. Nicknamed the Versailles of Burgundy, the Château was even envied by King Louis XIV himself!
RESTORED BY HERVE KERLANN

Time has taken its toll, especially after the Revolution, and the most grandiose buildings are gone. The Château was bought in 1998 by Hervé KERLANN, who restored it and reconnected it with its wine growing past, stone by stone, vintage by vintage. Thanks to this commitment of the past 20 years, the nine centuries long history of Château de Laborde lives on…

HERVE KERLANN

“A wine trotter” from Brittany with a childhood in Libourne, who fell in love with Gevrey-Chambertin, Hervé’s life has always been strongly linked with the wine world. He has also lived in Canada
– Montreal and Vancouver – for 14 years. He first created in 1993 his own fine wine distribution company targeted at Asian markets (working with Robert Groffier, Méo-Camuzet, Mikulski, and many others). Direct Domaines Distribution is now one of the leaders in its category.

Inspired by all the talented winemakers around him, he decided to start a Domaine himself by first buying the Château de Laborde in 1998, at the time owned by the Hospices de Beaune, and then planting his first vines in 2000.

Today the estate represents 4 hectares in
ownership completed by contracts of grapes for a total of 9 hectares, all vinified, aged and bottled by Hervé KERLANN.
