Precision, tension, and the geology of Bannockburn.

Founded by brothers James and Matt Dicey in the dramatic, fractured landscapes of Central Otago, this label is the culmination of decades spent pioneering the Bannockburn sub-region. James manages the viticulture with a meticulous, dirt-under-the-fingernails approach; Matt translates that fruit into wine with a philosophy of "active non-intervention."

The name Dicey reflects the daring nature of cool-climate winemaking at the edge of the world. Three estate sites — The Inlet, Black Rabbit, and Swansong — each tell a distinct geological story. These are wines crafted for those who value the intersection of rugged nature and refined artistry.

A Study of Soil and Spirit

Capturing the invisible threads between geology and glass.

Dicey is built on the belief that the three estate sites — The Inlet, Black Rabbit, and Swansong — each possess their own geological fingerprint, and that the winemaker's job is simply to reveal it. James Dicey spends his days in the vineyard reading the land; Matt Dicey spends his in the cellar refusing to get in its way. Together, they produce wines of deep resonance that could only come from this particular corner of Bannockburn.

Whether it is the silken fragrance of The Inlet's loess and river gravels, the brooding schist-driven intensity of Black Rabbit, or the earthy, textural complexity of Swansong's clay soils, each bottle is a precise, site-specific statement — wines for collectors who pay attention to what the ground is saying.

The three estate vineyards

Each site, a distinct geological story. Each wine, a precise expression of its ground.

01

The Inlet

A high terrace above the Kawarau River on wind-blown loess over river gravels. The most ethereal of the three — producing Pinot Noir of incredible fragrance, bright red fruit, and a fine, silken structure. Highly sought for its purity and poise.

02

Black Rabbit

A steep, north-facing slope with shallow soils over schist rock — the powerhouse of the lineup. Dark cherry, wild thyme, and a brooding, muscular tannin profile. Built for 10+ years of cellaring as the schist-driven minerality slowly unfolds.

03

Swansong

The lowest and oldest site — heavier clay soils delivering earthy, savoury, deeply textural wines. Alongside Pinot Noir, this exceptional site produces age-worthy Chenin Blanc and Riesling for those who prefer savour over fruit.
